He commented in a statement that he was "thankful for the chance to have contributed, excited about the prospects of the organization, and anticipate observing their development".

The prominent academic, who previously presided over the Ivy League institution, declared on earlier this week that he would be withdrawing from public responsibilities due to his connections with Epstein.

Message Exchange

The newly public messages demonstrated that the economist communicated with the financier until the day before his 2019 apprehension for accused human trafficking of minors.

In another announcement, the technology organization stated it respected his determination to depart.

"We value his significant contributions and the viewpoint he brought to the Board," OpenAI commented.

Congressional Action

This development follows after the two houses of the legislative branch agreed on recently to approve a bill that would compel the US justice department to make public its files on the case.

The bill will afterward proceed to the desk of President Trump for approval. He has stated he intends to endorse the bill, after reversing his view on the subject following pushback from his supporters.

Correspondence Findings

A batch of Epstein-related messages released by the House Oversight Committee days ago mentioned several prominent individuals in the financier's former circle, without implying any legal wrongdoing by those individuals.

The emails revealed that the professor and Epstein often met for meals, with the billionaire often attempting to connect the academic to prominent global figures.

Personal Response

After the emails were made available with the public, Summers expressed he took "complete accountability for my misguided choice to continue interacting with the financier".

He continued that he desired "to reestablish faith and mend connections with the people most important to me".

Career Background

The economist held leadership roles under party leaders; acting as economic leader under Bill Clinton, and as leader of the National Economic Council under President Obama.

He led Harvard from five years and remains a academic there. When declaring his departure from public roles previously on Monday, he stated he would maintain his academic responsibilities.

Additional Consequences

Following his declaration on earlier this week, the policy organization, a left-leaning think tank in DC where he was a prominent member, confirmed that the economist was not connected with the organization.

The former official became part of the leadership of the AI company, which creates the language model, in last year - following a failed attempt to oust its chief executive the company leader.
