Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to return for the upcoming Hunger Games series instalment, Sunrise on the Reaping.

It has been confirmed that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

A Significant Comeback for the Franchise

Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their cameos will take the form of a brief glimpse ahead, considering the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.

This marks the sixth film in the global Hunger Games franchise.

The Source Material

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed nearly all the previous films in the series.

A New Era in Panem

The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several prominent actors in important characters:

  • Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
  • Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

Current Projects and Release Timeline

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the production schedule:

  1. Principal photography commenced in the summer of 2025.
  2. Filming concluded in November of the same year.
  3. The highly anticipated film is scheduled for November 2026 release.

Moviegoers can now eagerly await the return of these iconic characters to the big screen.
